Code of Conduct

In order for all Scouts to get the most out of their time in Scouting & to enjoy it, we suggest that you take an active part in the life of the group & engage with the many activities & opportunities that Scouting can provide.

1st Dawley Scout Group have a code of conduct for all its members. This is not a code or set of rules that have been imposed by the adult leaders, it has been created by involving our Scouts in the process . The code of conduct is also reviewed by each section to ensure that it is still relevant.

The following guidelines are therefore expected to be followed by our members.

  • Attend all Troop meetings unless ill or away on holiday
  • Have the courtesy to inform the leaders if you cannot attend a meeting
  • Make every effort to attend the annual Remembrance day parade
  • Attend at least TWO activities outside of the normal Troop meetings per year
  • Help with at least one Fundraising event during the year
  • Look after your own & all Group equipment
  • Wear your uniform to meetings unless advised otherwise by the Leaders
  • Wear your uniform smartly & with pride
  • Ensure the badges you are awarded are stitched on your uniform in the correct place
  • Enjoy Scouting
  • Let your Patrol Leader know of any idea for activities
  • Be comfortable talking to the Leaders about any concerns or problems
  • Listen to & follow instructions by leaders & instructors these may be for your safety.
  • Turn up for meetings on time
  • Be intolerant of bullying & report it when you see it to an adult
  • Wear sensible & appropriate clothing & footwear for the activity we are taking part in
  • Be honest & trustworthy, you will gain respect for it
  • Set a good example to Cubs joining the Troop & new Scouts
  • Swearing is not acceptable in Scouting
  • Remember to smile & say Thank you, it does matter
  • Mobile Phones are not required at Troop meetings if you bring one they must be on silent & not used
  • Respect the fantastic headquarters you meet in & the work put in to achieve it.

Above all we should :

  • Show Loyalty to our Scout Troop & the Scout movement
  • Be able to be trusted by the leaders & fellow Scouts
  • Be a considerate friend to others
  • Be careful of other peoples property & do not use if not given permission by the owner
  • On camp keep out of other peoples tents and gear
  • Treat everyone with respect & you will receive respect
  • Have fun ! That's what Scouting is all about

Behaviour & Attendance

To ensure that the 1stDawley Scout Group can provide both a safe and enjoyable environment within all sections, we operate both Behaviour and Attendance policies. Unacceptable behaviour exhibited by any Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, Scout, or parent/guardian will not be tolerated, and if warranted these members will no longer be welcome in the Group.  All leaders, assistant leaders, young leaders, and volunteer helpers give up a great deal of their own time to operate the different sections, and it is a simple fact that without their dedication no aspect of the Group would function. Please always bear this in mind.
